Welcome back to the Sky Blanket Project 2016. It's been nearly a week since I started knitting one square each day to represent the sky.  I'm loving this project because #1 I love knitting and #2 taking the time to look up at the sky gives me a moment to reflect and appreciate all of the blessings in my life. There is something about being present in the moment and gazing up at the vast expanse of space above puts things into perspective.

I've made a few adjustments since my first post. You can see my first post about the Sky Blanket Project HERE. Also, since starting this blanket our son, Gabriel, has asked to learn to knit so that he can make his own blanket. Of course I said "YES!"

  1. I decided on the Moss Stitch for each square. The Moss Stitch is Row 1: knit 1, purl 1 (repeat to the end of the row). Row 2: purl 1, knit 1 (repeat to the end of the row). Row 3: purl, knit 1 (repeat to the end of the row). Repeat these three rows to achieve the Moss Stitch
  2. Originally I thought I would only be casting on 10 stitches, but that made my square far to small. Instead I decided on a cast on of 20 stitches with 26 rows. This gives me a nice 5"x5" square.
  3. I've decided to add a button onto any square of significance. For example: I added a pearlescent button onto my first square to represent New Year's Day.
  4. I started keeping track of my stitches and rows in a lovely Dr. Who River Song Journal I received for Christmas. The blue journal just seemed to fit with all of the blues I'm using for the knitted squares. Plus I'm a HUGE Dr. Who fan!
