A Week in the Life of Unschoolers

Oh my gosh folks, this has been such a busy week! We converted our sunroom/lego room into Gabriel's bedroom. It was easier moving all of our furniture instead of trying to move all of his Lego's! But he needed his own space. We moved Jade into our bedroom to be closer to Gabriel and we moved into her old room. Our home was a disaster for several days! The result was worth it. Everyone LOVES their rooms and you wouldn't believe all of the STUFF we got rid of in the process!

We gave Gabriel his first pet, a rose haired tarantula! Our son has been asking for a pet for a while now, but we wanted to make sure he was ready for the responsibility. We took name requests on Facebook and Gabriel finally decided on the name Nightmare Arachnis for this lovely lady. I didn't think I would be OK with a giant spider in the house, but she is very docile and I really like her.

We did a couple of crystal making experiments with the kit Gabriel got for his birthday last month.

My daughter, Jade, has developed a love for Dominoes! She is getting good at matching up the colors...not so good at the numbers. Unfortunately her counting still consists of 1, 2, 5, 9! I also put a hole in a couple of containers so that she could put buttons and craft balls in without them falling back out.

We had friends over several times and there was loads of sensory bin play, Lego play, and swimming.

We did experiments dealing with outer space with our new Green Kid Crafts box subscription.

We started and almost finished Life of Fred: Dogs. We started and got half way through with Beowulf. We also continued reading the book Goblins from last week.

Of course we had lots of fun outside climbing trees, riding scooters, fighting sword battles and finding little creatures to call friends.

We observed rainbows coming through my bedroom window. The kids had loads of questions, so we learned about reflection, refraction, and dispersion.

We spent one day doing puzzles! The 3D Dinosaur Puzzle Ball was awesome to put together. I only got to help a little....

We had fun with fireworks one evening. There was one that was named a "Jade Flower!"

We ended our week at the Chattahoochee Nature Center surrounded by butterflies!

Now you have had a glimpse into our week. I hope you enjoyed it as much as we did. Although, I hope you are not as exhausted as I am!
