This week began our in depth study of Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone...per our son, Gabriel's request. My sister, who came down to visit the previous week, made Hogwarts robes for the children. She even made one for one of their homeschool friends that will be doing the study with us. My brother-in-law made really awesome broomsticks for the children to play with...because every witch or wizard has a trusty broomstick. I showed Gabriel how to make "parchment paper" out of copy paper, and black tea. We added a little fire around the edges for good measure. This made "perfect" parchment for writing with ones quill and ink! Gabriel also started his own Harry Potter notebook.

Jade is still recovering from her virus. So, we went through stages of "Not Feeling Good" and "Feeling Good." It has been a roller coaster ride with her.

Gabriel did quite a bit of reading this week. He received his Hogwarts acceptance letter in the mail. This kid was so excited he was bouncing in his seat! Well played Papa, well played.

Gabriel read Sir Cumference and the First Round Table, The Wind and the Sun, The Crow and the Pitcher, The Fox and the Crow, The Goose that Laid the Golden Egg, The Tortoise and the Hare, The Timid Rabbit, The Jay in the Peacock's Feathers, the Boy Who Cried Wolf, The Lion and the Mouse, and the first three chapters of Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone!

Our daughter had me read The Best Mouse Cookies, Pip and Pog, There's a Wocket in My Pocket, and My Teacher Turns into a Tyrannosaurus to her over and over and over again.

We introduced "Tea Time" in the afternoons. This is when we would listen to Gabriel read Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone while we all drank Hot Chocolate or in my case Earl Grey and I worked on Gabriel's Griffindor scarf. The Cauldron Cakes were especially good but so were the cupcakes...according to Jade.

Gabriel played the games Prodigy and Minecraft daily. In Prodigy Gabriel is trying to level up a dragon baby and to do that he must win battles. To win the battles he must answer math questions.

In Minecraft he asked about an ancient ships. We found a tutorial on You Tube and within 40 minutes he had an ancient trade ship.

Our son crushed his Paleobiology course this week. He learned all about Cube Square Law, Ontogenetic Changes, and Lines of Arrested Growth.

We played several games this week including Chess and Pairsinpears. We struggled with a 3D Crystal Owl Puzzle that came without directions.

Every time Gabriel read a chapter of Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone, he drew a picture to represent that chapter and put it in his notebook. The children got crafty and made toilet paper Monsters. My table looked like a craft store exploded! But the monsters were really cute. Jade says hers is an owl....

We made spider webs out of glue and glitter. The kids liked this because there were loads of spiders in Harry Potters cupboard under the stairs.

Jade did a bit of free painting.

We made Catapults out of Popsicle sticks and rubber bands. Gabriel and his friend then proceeded to try and knock down plastic cups with tootsie rolls as ammo. If you knocked down a cup, you got to eat your ammo!

There were wizarding duels on the playground.

Our afternoons were spent outside with friends. The dog pile on the slide was extremely fun to watch. Loads of fun was had by all.

We ended our week visiting with my husbands mom, Nana Charlie. The kids had a blast climbing trees, playing in her yard and making a new friend. I think her cat  enjoyed their visit too.
